You’ve just self-published a book. How do you get people to read it? A certain level of marketing is necessary if you want people to know about your book and purchase it. Below are a few tips on how to promote your book online.

Set up a website

The first thing to do is to set up a website. This can give your book a level of legitimacy, plus you can sell your book directly through your website. A website offers a great space to display a description of your book, an author bio, and any positive reviews you receive.

Promote your book on social media

Social media can be another great platform for promoting your book. Set up Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok pages to promote your book. You will be able to pay to run posts as ads to help gain more exposure if you choose. Consider sharing content from other pages and make sure to respond to all comments.

Invest in SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This marketing strategy involves using keywords, hyperlinks, and other tactics to improve the search rankings of your book on Google and Bing. SEO tactics can also be used in eBook stores to help increase your rankings here. Because SEO can be quite complex, it’s worth hiring a marketing specialist such as Joey Armstrong to handle it for you. A professional marketing agency will have the expertise and connection to make sure that your SEO efforts are effective.

Encourage readers to leave reviews online

A lot of people like to check out reviews before buying or downloading a book. Every time someone buys your book, follow up a month later (this gives them some time to read it) with an email requesting they leave a review. This could be an Amazon review or a review on Goodreads. On top of regular reader reviews, it could also be worth trying to land some more serious reviews  – consider reaching out to book blogs and book vlogs that do reviews. Such reviews could be more influential in building readers.

Start your own blog

Some authors like to set up their own blog where they talk about the process behind writing their book or possibly offer writing tips. A blog could help you to build up hype for your book before it is even published. You can also use your blog to continue promoting your book after it is published.

Consider PPC advertising

PPC ‘pay-per-click’ advertising is another way to promote your book. It involves paying to display ads until a certain number of people have clicked on them. These ads for your book could be search ads (the types of ads you get at the top of Google), image ads or video ads. When people click on these adverts, they could lead to a page where people can find out more information about your book and purchase it (such as an Amazon page).
